Module 27: The Educational Rights of Children in Foster Care in CT

Since 2016, children in foster care nationally have had very specific educational rights that were enacted with the passing of Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), however, there are still many school and child welfare systems that do not understand these rights and therefore do not implement or enforce them as they should. It is important for every foster parent to know the rights protected under ESSA as well as other laws so that the students in their care have the best chance of succeeding in school and graduating ready to attend college or pursue a career.
